Our State Representatives
Strafford is in House District #3, currently consisting of the towns of Strafford and New Durham. Redistricting to take place this session may alter this district.
Together, Strafford and New Durham elect two State Representatives. Currently both are Republicans:
Rep. Kurt Wuelper is a member of the House Judiciary Committee.
Wuelper supports using public taxpayer funds to support religious and charter schools and has recently sponsored legislation on this issue. He is the past president of NH Right to Life and was endorsed by the NH Right to Life PAC in 2020.
Rep. Michael Harrington is a member of the House Science, Technology & Energy Committee.
Harrington has primarily sponsored anti-income tax and energy related legislation. He has received A and A+ grades from Americans for Prosperity, a libertarian-conservative political advocacy group funded by David Koch and Charles Koch, whose endorsement they received in 2020. How this is connected to the needs of Strafford and New Durham residents remains to be seen.
Rep. Harrington represents a special-interest organization, the New England Ratepayer’s Association (NERA), as an advisor. He does not represent his constituents when he acts as advisor to an organization which has issued a cost-benefit analysis concluding mitigation of PFAWs, toxic and deadly chemicals released by industry, is not warranted; and when NERA’s conclusion, in part, was based on data generated from a person employed by the Mercatus Center, part of an expansive network of right-wing, Koch Brothers-funded think tanks. NERA supported towers and wires slicing their way from Canada to southern NH, a very unpopular and unnecessary project known as Northern Pass, that would have provided energy to Massachusetts, and none to New Hampshire. You want representatives who will represent you, not a lobbying organization with a megaphone.
